If you’d like a happy medium between country and city life, you’ll enjoy many of Lancaster County’s towns. These enclaves offer a classic Americana feel with plenty for the whole family to do. Three of Lancaster’s largest towns feature bustling Main Streets with boutiques, cafes, restaurants and galleries — plus special features that make each town unique:

Lititz, PA — This charming town is known for its beautiful park that is a community gathering site for fun events throughout the year. Every second Friday, the town spills onto its sidewalks for extended shopping hours and socializing. It’s a town where it’s easy to know your neighbors — but Lititz residents are used to seeing famous musicians mingling in their midst from time to time. The town is home to Rock Lititz, a unique facility where professional concert stages are built and tested before traveling the world.

Ephrata, PA — North of Lititz, you’ll find Ephrata, another bustling town built around a charming Main Street. The town is home to multiple attractions, including the Ephrata Main, an art-deco style two-screen movie theater, St. Boniface craft brewery, and the Green Dragon, an expansive outdoor farmer’s market. Once a year, Ephrata hosts the state’s largest street fair, attracting visitors from many surrounding towns.

Millersville, PA — Located closer to the southern end of the county, Millersville is a thriving college town. Home to Millersville University, part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, the town is becoming a hot destination for new restaurants and breweries.

City Living in Lancaster County, PA

Located at the center of the county, Lancaster City is a thriving urban area. Despite its small size — just under 60,000 residents in 2019 — the city boasts a busy downtown business district and a vibrant social scene. The city is home to the country’s oldest continually operating farmers’ market, where international cuisine meets farm-fresh groceries and Amish handicrafts.

Lancaster City has several historic, residential neighborhoods with a mix of rowhomes, semi-detached and freestanding houses. From grand Victorian-era estates on the city’s west side to prewar brick single-family homes on the east, Lancaster City offers a great variety of homes.

Suburban Homes for Sale in Lancaster

Located directly around the city’s outskirts, Manheim Township, Lancaster Township, and West Lampeter Township are three options popular with growing families. Lancaster’s suburban townships are located comfortably between city activity and Amish country farmland. These communities are perfect for families in need of a great school district, fun activities and ample room for kids to play.
